Meet Tenzing.

Tenzing is a Red Panda, also known as a "Firefox." Tenzing's name comes from the famous Nepalese climber, Tenzing Norgay, who was the first to summit Mt. Everest. He lives in the mid-hills of the Kanchenjunga Mountains of Nepal. These same mountains also serve as a home to villagers who depend on Tenzing's forest for survival. Tenzing's region, the PIT corridor of eastern Nepal, is one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet.
The PIT corridor of eastern Nepal supports 25 percent of the red panda population of Nepal and plays a vital role in linking protected areas of Nepal and India. Unsustainable livestock grazing, agriculture and resource harvesting practices are the major drivers of deforestation and forest degradation in the PIT corridor, which is threatening red pandas and their habitat. Illegal poaching is also on the rise in this area.

Luckily, these adorable creatures have a network of guardian angels at Red Panda Network (RPN).

Since 2007, RPN has been working to protect red pandas and their habitat in the PIT corridor. They use an integrated, landscape-level approach to red panda conservation, including research and monitoring, education and outreach, habitat protection and restoration, and sustainable development initiatives.

Through the conservation, research, and education efforts of Red Panda Network, Tenzing now stands a better chance of surviving in a threatened environment.
